June 2010 — “Age is NOT a disease! Women like being 50, 60 and 70. We don’t want to go back to Thirty – it was too stressful,” say, Suzanne Braun Levine, author of 50 IS THE NEW FIFTY and Eileen Williams, the founder of the FEISTY SIDE OF FIFTY blog and radio show. NEW VIDEOS – “50” Is a Big Deal Birthday For Most Women and a Time Full of Promise!

YOUNGER WOMEN ARE LOOKING AHEAD!

A young staff member at Plume (my paperback publisher) interviewed me for two new videos to celebrate the paperback publication of “50 Is the New Fifty.” Because the interviewer was a young woman, I was reminded (again) of how important it is for women in second adulthood to be seen in our culture – to be visible and happy. We are each other’s horizontal role models. And, just as important, we are paving the way for younger women.

Younger …

THIS IS WHAT 65 LOOKS LIKE – TRAINING FOR A 60K WALK!

By Karin Lippert
Toronto, Canada
When I decided to sign up for the Weekend to End Women’s Cancers 60K two-day event in Toronto, I knew I would have to train. I hadn’t done very much about exercise in a long time. I had not been motivated. I thought all my little aches would just get bigger/worse. My damaged discs would rebel. I was wrong.
Two things happened that made me change my outlook. First, I decided that at 65 I had to do the walk to honor my mother who had died …

“I Feel Like Hugging All the Wonderful Middle-Aged Women I am Coming Across!”

Thank You Suzanne!
Dear Suzanne:
I just finished reading “Fifty Is the New Fifty” over the weekend. After the first chapter, I put my “to do list” aside to make time to go through it all by Sunday night. I could not believe how everything spoke to me and my experiences so directly. My view of many things is now drastically changed.

This morning, I literally feel like hugging all the wonderful middle-aged women I am coming across – I now see how we are so deeply connected.
What an incredible feeling to read …

YOU CATCH YOUR HUSBAND CHEATING! <br />DISBELIEF CAN BE AS PARALYTIC AS FEAR…

Toxic Relationships Can Make Us Sick
Saying NO Can Save Your Life!
The Shock of Discovery…
For ‘Anne’, age fifty-one, it began with a misdirected email on her computer…and the shock of discovery in a relationship that seemed fine.
I found out through an e-mail on my laptop that he had picked up a woman–or she had picked him up–it was just one of those whacko things: This was a girl that was 29 years old from Nebraska, and in forty-eight hours she’s e-mailing him that she can’t live without him–she’s married, …

“MY CIRCLE OF TRUST BOOK CLUB” Women Love Books & Want to Share Them

ALSO, AN UPDATE ON BOOKS BY FRIENDS

Like all of you, I have a circle of friends that I try to connect with on a regular basis. For me, it’s often over lunch.  I look forward to those dates with a real hunger – for the intimacy, the chance to chronicle our lives to ourselves and each other, and the sheer delight of gazing at a well-loved face.
If too much time goes by, one or the other of us sends an e-mail titled “re: lunch?” Occasionally we need to schedule an …

‘A Revolutionary Gathering’ of Social Entrepreneurs – The Purpose Prize Summit

Ann Higdon
MEET ANN HIGDON
2009 PURPOSE PRIZE WINNER
“The Purpose Prize gathering is revolutionary,” said Ellen Goodman the newspaper columnist and herself, the winner of a Pulitzer Prize. “I am looking at you as my mentors,” she told the audience in her keynote address at the recent Purpose Prize Summit.
I have to agree. It was a room filled with inspiring people and stories.
I met Ann Higdon, winner of a 2009 Purpose Prize ($50,000.) and was impressed by her strength, warmth, and humor. Ann is the fist to admit that in high school …
